1991 laser
Car keeps stalling when driving it. Warm or cold weather. Spent 1000.00 at dealer and still not fixed. Thinking it might be the fuel filter. Where is the filter in this?

Turbo or non-turbo?
1.8L or 2.0L? Manual or automatic? How does it idle? Definitely check your fuel filter. That should be replaced every couple of years anyway if not sooner. Oh! The fuel filter is located next to the battery on the firewall and is that round metal thing (black if it's OE) with hoses running in and out of it. Just follow the hose from the passenger side of the fuel rail, it leads right to it. If you've already had the dealer look at it then I'm assuming they've checked all of the obvious stuff so I'll jump straight to this: If you haven't already replaced the ECU, pop the cover and see if any of the three electrolytic capacitors are leaking. This will cause a variety of issues, sometimes inconsistent. They usually start leaking after about 7-8 years. Most companies that sell rebuilt DSM ECU's do nothing but replace those damn caps all day long. If you took it to a Mitsubishi dealer, they should have known to check for this, and may have already done so. Unfortunately, they're not always going to waste the time digging the ECU out of the center console if the information that THEY'RE computer read through your diagnostic port said everything was copacetic. However, if they found nothing else wrong and the problem persists, it should've been checked. Especially if we're talking about a 13 year old ECU. If it turns out that this is the problem, don't junk your Laser. The problem can be remedied for little money. I found my replacement capacitors on eBay for about 5 bucks. Mach V Motorsports sells them as well. When you get them, the guys at Technomotive were cool enough to create a little "how to" on replacing them. In the future, when you need help with a DSM related question, you might try posting in either the Mitsubishi Eclipse or Eagle Talon sections. There are a lot more of those on the road than there are Lasers and therefore more people viewing those posts. If you continue to have problems getting answers, go to DSMtuners.com. It's a performance related site but it is DSM specific and is where the DSM experts hang out.
