No Wipers
I have a 1989 Firebird and the windshield wipers dont work. When u turn the switch nothing nothing happens. I checked the fuse under the dash and it was fine. Is there a relay or something that controls it???

Re: No Wipers
Yes wiper's use a relay. It should be a silver devise in your fuse box. If that checks out one of the wires is damage and you will have to test with a voltmeter and possibly run a wire. Good Luck and keep us posted. Also welcome to the forum.

Ok i checked the white wire at the switch and it has 12 volts but when i have the switch in any position none of the other four wires that go to the motor have any voltage. so i'm thinking that the switch is bad. Also the steering wheel will move up and down and the tilt thing works right, the horn doesnt work and neither does the cruise control. So I was thinking that I should just replace the whole steering column instead of trying to take it apart. Does anyone have any ideals???????????

Replace the switch first please...Jesus don't just slap a new steering column in there without checking/replacing switches first.

Ok how do i replace the switch then....The cruise control wires were cut so I fixed that. And also when I took the steering wheel cover off so I can see the horn wires, the red wire with the spring on it is'nt attached to anything does it just go into one of the holes??

Re: No Wipers
Look for a black, short, wide plug, along the steering column. You'll have to actually get down in the floor near the pedals to look for it. I dropped the steering column in my 87 to pull the dash, and put it back up without putting this plug back together. Anyhow, I didnt have wipers, horn, or turn signals while this was apart, so, check that. Hope it helps.

Re: No Wipers
if the plug is still plugged in then I'll assume that's not your problem, but if you still wanna drop the column, you need to start with the plastic shield that sits right under the driver side dash. After you pull that off, look for 2 13mm nuts on either side of the column (underneth, that is). After you take those, the column will swivel down.

sorry si5s127,but I have to take over your thread. my passanger side wiper arm is leaving a 1/8 inch gap between the window and the blade so basicly the blade barely misses the windshield when turning. Before I break anything I was wondering if there is something I can adjust in the arm so the blade can actually touch the window while turning?thanks

Ok you can have thread, I wasnt really getting much help anyway. I'm sick of these damn wipers I think I'm just going to tie a string to them and run it in the car so i can just pull it to make them go up.......lol....of course then I wouldnt be able to make them go back down........
