Angry 1998 Accent Overdrive Problem!! Please Help :)

I drive a 1998 Hyundai Accent and I have had nothing but problems with it. My transmission was slipping really bad and the overdrive was not working properly so I bought a used Transmission for my car. The new Transmission works fine and yes I made sure they put Hyundai's special transmission oil in it. But i'm still having problems with my dawn overdrive.
When I drive with the overdrive button on it does not shift and when i depress the button to off nothing happens.

Here is the funny part, If i put a bit of pressure on the stickshift the dawn overdrive works. Its a pain in the but to have to drive with your hand on the stick shift and putting a bit of pressure on it so the overdrive will work. I know its not the transmission because i had it changed just a week ago and the problem with the overdrive was still there.

Can anyone help me out? I'm thinking this might be a problem with the shifter ( electronics maybe ? )

any help is appreciated ! :o)

Sounds like your having the exact same problem as me. The overdrive problem is definetly not the transmission as i bought another transmission and had it installed and my overdrive is still not working.
With the old transmission I was for a while getting the same thing as you.." driving and the car seemed to slip into neutral " It does not do that anymore with the other transmission. The over drive doesn't work at all right now so i just drive the car with the over drive off.

When you press the overdrive off does the over drive light come on in the dash ?

Sure thing. I'm bringing it to a tranny shop tomorrow " Tuesday " and I'll let you know the outcome.

I am having the same problem and we had the tranny fixed, and it does the same thing. So someone said it was electrical? Do you have and suggestions? Minxster

Re: Overdrive Problem Automatic Trans

See minxsters thead, just because it comes on in the display does not mean the ecu is seeing the signal. The wire splits off somewhere, check after the split and before the ecu for a good wire.

Hello,

Well finally got the tranny to work properly. The button on the stick shift was bad and there were also cut wires inside of the shift pod.

They changed the wires and replaced the button and now the tranny works A1... If I would have been smart I would have gotten this done before the buying another tranny for it...

Thanks for the reply
