Unhappy code reader wont work 91 explorer

I bought a cheap code reader from codereader.com
i plug it into my 91 explorer as they say in the manual and i get no codes
with the ignition off it stays a steady light and tone but when i turn the ignition on it goes off.
is there somthing else i need to do?

Re: code reader wont work 91 explorer

are u sure your code reader is compatible with OBDI?

It might be for newer cars that have OBDII.

with OBDI (95-down) manufacters had a different OBD tool cause they had different hook ups and programs.

OBDII which is 95-up all use the same plugin and same program.

The code Reader is for a 1981 - 1995 Ford
it did work on time though, after i used my meeter to test the leads on the truck i just started to work. but as luck would have it i did not have my paper ready. i restarted it and nothing, i tried to restep my steps and still nothing.

i am getting very frustrated

Thanks
