Gas Smell

Hello All,

I have had the following problem for the last few weeks.

I have noticed a strong smell of gas coming from the engine after the car has been turned off. The smell is there only if the compressor has been on with heat. The smell is also noticeable if the car is idling and air is coming from the vents. I have checked for leaks and have noticed none. There is also no change in fuel consumption and/or engine performance. Vehicle is a 95 sunfire with 2.2 liter engine and automatic transmission.

Any thoughts?

Re: Gas Smell

you are probably suffering from a leaky fuel regulator. You can check the pressure and see if it leaks but for the trouble it's easier to replace the o-ring on the fuel pressure regulator, located on the driverside of the engine back at the intake manifold. I have the same engine and experienced a raw gas smell under load and at warm idle and this was the root cause.
