Bracing/ changing the rear seat on my '89 CRX

Has anyone else done this at all? I'd like to make my backseat availabe to passengers if necessery and not have them sit on the flimsy cardboard rear bench/compartment. I've looked into the JDM rear seats off ebay, but the decent ones with the hardware are all around $400!

Has anyone else ever home-made some seats for their CRX? If so, do you have any pictures of how it turned out? or the procedure you went through to make them?

Thanks,

NAte

Re: Bracing/ changing the rear seat on my '89 CRX

Remember that a CRX weight capacity is 400lbs (according to the owner's manual) so unless you got some bony friends or tiny chicks I wouldn't even bother especially with a sub box already. If you had some aftermarket springs/struts that might be a different story...

2 seater

i think the crx is a 4 seater in japan, so it must be safe here, i think they made it a 2 seater casue most north americans coouldnt even fit back there.

i would like to kno more about this topic also.
all i have ever heard of is a guy put some 90-93 gsr back seats back there.

LMAO Must be safe here huh? Ever seen a collision in a crx? Japan has VERY lax safety regulations thats why those seats are in there, plus I believe insurance rates are cheaper when its considered a 2+2.

I wouldnt reccomend this mod at all. If you were to get rear-ended your friends wouldnt be very happy sitting back there.

Go for it, it wont be any less safe than a civic hatch in a wreck. Just a few days ago someone posted on how they had reinforced that piece with some plywood and put padding under it and stuff so people could sit on it.

actually that was me who had put the wood and padding under the rear compartment, I was just wondering if anyone else had done a better job or had any tips...

Thanks,
Nate
