Re: bad cold starts

Sounds like a normal cold diesel to me. Diesels don`t like being cold. Common cold weather start up.

Re: bad cold starts

Does it have a block heater & if so do you plug it in at night? If not get one & use it. This should help it not be so grouchy on those cold mornings.

Re: bad cold starts

as for poor fuel milage, change the fuel filter and run some power service through it. otherwise, as for the cold starting, i own 2 diesels, a 2000 powerstroke, and a 85 6.2 detroit. They both seem to start off about 4 cylenders when first starting, but if you have original glow-plugs, I would replace those along with a new glow-plug relay. You have to take off the valve covers to get to the glow-plugs, so make a day of it.

What is a loose injector, a leaking injector?

Re: bad cold starts

Well it surely was NOT a "loose" injector, if the injector hold-down bolts are even the slightest bit loose, they WILL leak oil into the fuel, and you will need new injector o-rings to fix it.

Yes, a clogged cat will do this.

Detroit NEVER EVER made any engines for light duty vehicles for GM or anyone else. The Olds 5.7L, and GM 6.2L/6.5L engines were NOT made or engineered by "Detroit Diesel", but by GM of which Detroit Diesel WAS a subsidiary.
