Muffler Opinions

Alright, y'all give me your opinions. Just bought a '98 Ford F150 w/ 4.6 V8 and an automatic trans. Looking at putting dual exaust on it, but I'm at a loss when it comes to picking mufflers. I want something that you don't hear.. it's loud enough to feel. I've been 'round exhausts like that before, but never found out the secret to 'em. But then on the other hand, I don't want to block up my ehaust. Most of the reason I'm puttin' on duals is for increased flow; I don't want to mess that up by putting on something that'll stop up the pipes. And no, straight pipes aren't gonna cut it this time. Let me know what y'all think about compromises for this one. Oh and BTW, no headers- I've heard flowmasters don't sound too good w/o headers, is this true? Thanks.

Re: Muffler Opinions

12" glasspacks and 3"x18" echo chambers.
You'll feel it.

Re: Muffler Opinions

The people in the ford forums might be a little more help. If you want something with rumble get something bigger than a 4.6L. Like a dodge with a 5.9L

Re: Muffler Opinions

I'd say just leave it alone. Flowmasters don't sound good anyway. My friends have these dumb GT mustangs with 4.6's, one has Flowmasters on it, and the other is stock, and I think the stock exhaust sounds better. If you're gonna do anything, just put dual exhaust with normal mufflers. It wouldn't hurt the flow that bad, and it will still rumble.

Re: Muffler Opinions

I wish indy- trick is gettin' one of those for $2000 like I did the Ford. Not to mention that I've already got one Dodge (88 D100) with duals on it... only problem is that it doesn't run worth a mess (see post '88 Dodge Flooding and Stalling Problem) and the mileage sucks so it's back in the shop.

Echo chambers go on the tip of the exhaust and act like a megaphone. Is that what you're talking about?
