94 cavalier dies when i brake.

I was driving down the highway today when i braked to come to a stop. when my 94 cavalier, made this chuging sound and lurched a bit when the engine just cut off. I tried to start it up agian, and as soon as i put it into gear is shut off again. After another try i got it running again, but it wasn't very smoothly. I pulled into my work and got out. I just fixed the back brakes, and the front one were done in may. also the abs light came on when it died. Please help. any suggestions will do me a world of good.

with your abs light on you could have a spun gear in one of your motors of your abs. i know it is about 250-300$ to fix in mine so i dont know how much it would be for you. but i know it is about a 3 hour job for a machanic to take everything apart and then to put all the new 'fancy' stuff back in but i dont know why you would have stalled!

When you came to a stop did it seem like the trans was stuck in gear?? because that year the TTC switch is a known problem.
Lets not look at brakes just yet. When you start it up does it take a long cranking time before if fires up (starts)
When it starts does it idle?? stall? rough idle??

my last tune up was in july. and as for the fuel pump being checked im not 100% sure on that. When i first turn on my car it does take a long cranking time to fire up. then it just idles for a bit. My machanic took my car and it seemed to run fine for him. But of course on my way to work today it pulls this on me. I was coming onto the off ramp for the freeway, braking to make a stop to turn right when it suddenly died on me.

100% sure it's the switch. my 94 did the exact same thing a couple years ago and it's the switch. the way the mechanic explained to me is that when the car starts moving the switch engages and when it comes to a stop it's supposed to disengage(something to that effect)but rite now it's not disengaging like it should. hope this helps

The switch is call Tcc It locks the trok converter in gear while at idle and and will stall the motor. Its like letting out the clutch with the ebrake on and you other foot on the brakes the car cant move and stalls out.

to see if that is the problem disconnect the wires down on the transmission and see if it runs better.

Gee, I've been wondering why those wires were just dangling from the transmission. It's been like that on mine since I bought it last year.
Which is it - a TTC switch or a TCC switch?
