Re: Remote Starter

Well, I know that with the Silverado's you need one that has a bypass kit or install a bypass for the stock security system. My truck came with the Crappy Tire AutoCommander Auto Start system and whoever wired it; wired it straight on. So when I use the Remote Start it works fine but, when you put the vehicle in gear the "Security" light comes on.
I'm sure that there are much better ones out there but, stay away from the AutoCommander one.
Get installed by a pro, that way if anything goes wrong their liable.
With a Remote Start system you don't want to be messing around with your starter and Rev sensors.

I recently installed an "Autostart" remote starter in my 01' Silverado with no problems.....the key is the 2nd ignition MUST be connected and a "Passlock II" bypass module MUST be installed to temporarily overide the onboard security. With the 2nd IGN installed the dashboard "SECURITY" light shouldn't come on. As for the bypass module I recommend the "PLDATA" module available online and at some remote start dealers. I'am an installer myself.
Take care......
Mike.

Re: Remote Starter

I agree, same thing happened to me with my remote start, security light would come on until I took it to the shop that installed the starter, they swapped a cable around and all is fine now.

Re: Remote Starter

I am planing on getting the Viper alarm system with the remote start. I need to get an alarm anyway so i figured I would get one with all the bells and whistles. I also keep hearing that Viper has one of the best security systems out their. But I am definetly having it installed professionally so they are responsible for anything that happens to it.

Re: Remote Starter

I 2nd the Viper or anything else from DEI. Make sure to have a qualified technician install it. If they hobble things, you'll have major problems. Just like the 2nd ignition wire. If that isn't used, the truck will start fine but the tranny will self destruct.

That passlock system sucks. The light will end up comming on whether you have a remote start installed or not. GM doesn't know how to fix the problems they have. It's gotten so bad that GM trys to lay blame on anything other than their vehicles. If a GM garage tech calls into GM's tech, the 1st question asked is if there is anything installed like a remote start. If they answer yes, they say they will not go any further until all of that's removed!
