Different Engine - How do I tell what one?

I have discovered that the engine in my car is not the original engine, and is not a Lebaron engine. The previous owner "thinks" it is a dodge engine....

This may sound like a stupid question, but is there a way (on my own) that I can tell what kind & size of engine it is? Any easy way to track it down by numbers on the engine or such?

Thanks in advance for any help

Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth used all the same engines, best bet if you need to know which engine so you can get the correct parts is to get numbers off the block and head, check allpar.com they have some info, a dealer may also be able to help

If you can post a picture of it on here I can tell you what engine you have.

Thanks for great feedback! Will check both check for numbers and take photo and post. Photo will be easy, finding numbers depends on where they are I suppose....

Not easy being automotively-challenged....*LOL*

Re: Different Engine - How do I tell what one?

Engine is cutting out on me, when I step on the gas. Back off it eases up, but then when come to inclines it doesn't want to climb them...First things first, find out what engine, then go from there...

Sorry it took so long to get back to this. I hope you are still able to take a look at the photos. There was a death in the family, and much to deal with. We just got back, and I have not really had a chance to look for any numbers on the engine yet.

I took a couple of photo, and rather than posting them here, I put them on a web page.

Here is the link: http://www.paonly.com/engine.html

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Judging from the pictures that is an 87-88 J-body LeBaron and I would say that engine is a 2.2L TBI engine. It could be a 2.5L, but only if someone swapped one in from a different car. Regardless if it is a Chrysler or Dodge engine, they are exactly the same. In fact the Dodge Daytona and the Chrysler LeBaron Coupe is the exact same car with different sheet metal and some interior trim.
