2001 Passat Engine Appears Flooded
I have a 2001 Passat GLX V6, and I am having trouble starting today.
Engine turns over like it wants to start, but stutters then cuts out. It appears as if the engine is flodded or bad gas, I didn't use the car the entire weekend with only 1/8 tank of gas, not sure if it is condensation. I've added dry gas, and 5 gallons of fuel, and tried 2 more times after waiting over an hour each time. Any suggestions. Thanks |

Re: 2001 Passat Engine Appears Flooded
Do you smell gas to suggest it's flooding? Do you hear the fuel pump run for a couple of seconds when you turn the key to on? If you're sure it's getting fuel then the most common ignition problem is the coil pack. You probably need to get a scanner to narrow down the problem.

I doubt that it is a flooding problem. Flooding was an over diagnosed problem even in the days of carburetors. Now with ECU and fuel injection I wouldn't even suspect flooding. Why do you?
I would be more inclined to suspect fuel starvation, if it is a fuel related problem. I would take the car in to a competent mechanic for diagnosis. But if you want to check some easy items: How do the spark plugs look? Is the air filter clean? Check the screen in the air filter box also. |
