Question Replace Power Window Motor

I need to replace the window motor in the right rear of my '98 Achieve. The switch is working and I want to purchase and replace the motor only, not the whole regulator assembly.

Any tips or tricks I should be aware of to replace this motor? It is my first time doing this and I want to avoid any snags that I can.

Thanks for your replies.

Re: Replace Power Window Motor

I purchased a 95 achieva from a dealer, drove next door to McDonalds and couldn't get the window to work. They fixed it for free (thank god). One thing I'll tell you, the motor is riveted in. You have to drill out the rivets to get the old motor out and rivet the new one it. I suppose you could use sheet metal screws or something, but your milage may vary.

A new motor is around $20, and instructions should be included. Just drill the old rivets out and bolt the new motor in with the supplied hardware. Watch out for sharp edges on the stampings. I couldn't install the last bolt on my motor, but it works fine. Be careful when removing the door interior or you might break off the plastic tabs the hold it. Unscrew everything, pull the bottom out, then push the middle in and lift up to remove.

Thanks for everyone who replied. I was able to successfully replace the window motor using the suggestions ya'll submitted (getting the panel off, drilling out the rivets). It was a bit of a pain in the arse, but I did it! Thanks again,
