90 442 Quad 4 info needed.

Hi folks
I'm new here, so if my question seems odd...I apoligize.
I have found a 90 442 Quad 4. My question is, it shows 141k miles on it. Is there anything I should be aware of engine wise or tranny wise. It's a 5 spd. The current owner has replaced the pick up coils, and has thrown in some additional coils and covers. He assures me that everything works on the car. (a/c et all.) I had trouble getting the cruise to engage during my test drive. I talked to the original owner later in the day, he said the cruise as been spotty since it was new. He tells me that oil usage is about 1.5 quart in 2500 miles.
This guy is asking 1000 for it. I'm just trying to cover my tail with a 15 year old car with alot of miles.

What are your thoughts.
thanks

Re: 90 442 Quad 4 info needed.

there are 3 versions of the quad 4 engine I think. Do a search "Quad 4" to find groups that support this engine. The first version was the most expensive and the best. All parts do not swap between the 3 engine variations.

141K miles is alot, so he either got lucky or takes real good care of it. I think the older oldsmobiles were made better than the stuff coming out the last five years.

don't buy older cars like this unless they are mint. You can get a 2000 year car with much more power for 5K or less with less needed service averaged over the years.
