Head work?

I have a 88XJ the # 1 cylinder has bad compression I believe it to be a valve and I would like to know is there any fixes I can do myself. I have found a engine out of a 96XJ classic that I think I can pull the head from. Does anyone know if the head ie.head bolts will match with chrysler to amc block.

Re: Head work?

I'm not sure about the head swap, another more knowlegable member may advise there. But are you sure it's a burned out valve? Greater chances are that it's a blown piston (those earlier years tended to detonate occasionally ).

Unless of course you've determined this already. If you haven't you can find out without ripping it apart (yet).

I'm pretty sure that you'll have to stick to a pre 91 head casting thou...not positive.
