Lowering?

Is there a law to how low you can lower you car and still have it street legal? Im guessing that if there is a law that it varies from state to state so i guess i am just looking for an average height if there are laws restricting it.

Re: Lowering?

I havn't heard of such a law...and i don't think it would matter unless you slammed the car so low it was scraping pavement.

Re: Lowering?

The only law regarding lowering is the law of gravity and newtons 3rd law...for every action ther eis an equal and opposite action. You lower it too low and you hit something on the road you can puncher the oil pan and going over parking lot speed bumps can be hazardous. Also remember you risk the loss of handling....

Re: Lowering?

A loss of handling? I thought that by lowering the car it would inturn lower its center of gravity, thus improving the handeling. Im not talking about even four inches im just looking for springs with a 1.5 - 2.0 inch drop.

Re: Lowering?

Yes handling improves when u lower ur car, and yes there is a law, i don't know which state has it, but there is a certain height ur car's head lights should be above the road, so what u could do is lower it, but raise ur head lights a couple o degrees up, it's probably in a few states........i know that's a bogus law, but i saw it once in some video , this cop was measuring how high the car head lights were from the road lol....

Re: Lowering?

Oh, I remember hearing about that law on some MTV special on Street Racing or something...the cop was writing a ticket for every possible infraction they could find to discourage the kid from racing...he ended up with like 12 different tickets.

It isn't a law you need to really worry about, especially if only lowering 2". No cop will ticket you for it unless they catch you at an organized street race or something. In PA, they just impound your car, but I guess in other states they write like 20 tickets per car to discourage you.
