90 wrangler 5 speed problems

my 1990 Wranger 2.5 is getting stuck in second gear, any ideas as to what may be the problem? I changed the gear lub and seemed to help just a bit, but still sticking in second gear, when it hangs, the shifter will come out of gear and be in the neutral position but the trans is still in second, and after a few seconds, it will fall out of gear. Thanks

How's your clutch? If worn it could cause this problem. How many miles on your Jeep? You may be looking @ trans problem. Does it stick in any other gear?

About 100K on the Jeep, it does not stick in any other gear but second, I did notice that when downshifting now it grinds in First gear and when the engine is off, the trans shifts fine.

Sounds like either clutch or trans. But if it was the clutch, you'd likely have problems in all gears, not just 1st and 2nd.

Looks like some trans work or replacement is in order. Check at your local (reputable) transmission shop to find out about a rebuild or repair.
