Shifting Problem

Alright, I was driving up a hill yesterday and was in 2nd then went to shift to 3rd and it wouldnt go into it. So i pulled over and found that it wouldnt go into 3rd or 4th at all. After messen around with it for awhile on the side of the road i could get it intop 3rd and 4th if i really pushed on it, but it would still slip out of 3rd on my way and get stuck in it also. I was told it could be the shift linkage or the clutch.
ANY IDEAS OF HOW I CAN FIX THIS PROBLEM?????

Re: Shifting Problem

Transmision. Chances are you need a new one. Just in case, you can check the shift linkage and see if somthing is jammed.

how would i check the shift linkage? The car has never had any problems since ive owned it and been well taken care of. Its got 118,000 miles on it and it seems like the tranny would last longer than that.

Re: Shifting Problem

just get under the car and look at the linkage. u'll notice if there is sumthin there that shouldn't be. it just runs from ur shifter to ur tranny. it's not the clutch, cuz it went into other gears fine right? definantly the linkage or tranny. sorry to say, but most likely the tranny
