Question 94 Lumina-Car stalled...now barely running

Went out to get some coffee this Am and just as I got near home the Lumina stalled. After several tries the car finally restarted but is running very erraticlly..... I barely got it up the driveway. My initial thought is its fuel starvation. I can hear the fuel pump start up. Now the tank was leaking several months ago and the tank was changed as well as the filter. Used the same pump. Soooo... maybe it is a pump or filter but thought I should test the waters here before bringing it to my repairman. ( he treats me fairly) .

The Euro has 182000 miles on it, is the 3.1 lite and has always run exceptionally well. I have read some posts here and to make sure it wasn't a Crank Position Sensor issue when it gets hot, I went back outside and started the car again since it has cooled down. It still the same problem... running very rough and I have to feather the gas pedal to try and get any RPM's out of it.

I just drove 200 miles yesterday to Cape Cod and it ran great. AND it is my daily commute car... I do 90 miles roundtrip every day with this car and it has never even burped leading up to this.

So your thoughts and suggestions are most welcome.
Thanks,
Mandodan

First thing to check is spark. If you've got a spark light its easy. If you dont you have to take out the plugs one at a time, ground them to the engine, and have someone turn it over while you watch for sparks. If you get no spark in a few of em, take out the ICM and coil packs, and have them tested.
Second thing to check, feul. Make sure its getting proper feul pressure. A feul pressure tester will tell you that. If you've got one. If you dont, you can either buy one or take it to a mechanic and have them test it for you.

My first guess would be spark.

check for spark, if you have no spark at all, it's a faulty crank position sensor, much cheaper and much easier to replace than the coils or ICM. if you do have spark, then it's fuel related. Test pressure at the rail, if it's low, pinch the return line. If the pressure rises with the return hose pinched, it's a bad regulator. IF the pressure stays low with the return line pinched, then the fuel pump is at fault.
