Camry 95 2.2L

I have a 95 Camry 2.2L Sedan. It happened several times with different situation as follows.

A. When I am about to stop, ie in a traffic light the idle goes low until it dies down. When I restart it would start easily.

B. Also other situation is that even when I am driving it the engine would just die down, I would notice for steering is hard, brake pedal is also hard to press also lights on the panel. When I restart it would start easily.

I would greatly appreciate the help anyone canprovide. Thank you very much.

If the engine gives up when on idle, you may need your throttle body cleaned. I know this only because during a service the dealer recommended this. I asked him what would happen if I don't do it and he said the engine my stall when on idle.
Certainly not an experienced opinion.

And yeah, the dealer would charge me $180 for throttle body and fuel injection cleaning. Midas would do it for $70. I asked both what the service involves and the descriptions match.

There are 2 things that will make u stall when you slow down or stop.
1) egr valve is sticking
2) torque convertor not releasing

The test is simple. Go under the hood and disconnect the vacuum hose to the egr valve.. then drive your routine and see if it's fixed.. this will light the check eng light, but its ok.. when you are done with the test, disconnnect the battery for a minute to clear light

It even happenedwhen I wasdriving all of a sudden the engine will shake for the idle goes down, it also happened when I was driving at 55 mph and the engine just dies out. Are problem w/ the egr valve sticking and torque converter not releasing also applies?

If that happens whenever you are getting out of the HWY or when you release the gas pedal, and it satrts easely, there is a good chance that you EGR shaft has carbon deposits and is nos sliding smoothly. Try to get the EGR valve and get rid of the carbon deposits. It is a job for a non specialized mechanic o,r iin case you have some mechanical skills ,shlould take 20 min to get the valve off and another 20 min to clean it. Good luck

Look at the egr valve and check the vacuum hoses for leaks. You can remove and clean the valve. Take the top off and blow out the small filter with compressed air. Look at the top of the filter element and be sure to reinstall it on top and not upside down. Next use a a solvent like gumout and a small scraping tool to clean the egr valve of carbon buildup. Get or make a new gasket for the egr and reinstall.
Have you tried disconnecting the vacuum hose and test driving it? If this is more than you can handle I'd take it to the dealer for evaluation.
