I just got a pre owned 99' intrigue 3.5 runs fine as my commuter for now..
I have a burned out blinker light on driver side.. i thought.. On the passenger side when i turn the blinker on the amber light on the front starts blinking as expected.. and here is the odd part some kind of clear side marker light comes on.. it's the bulb right next to the amber part on the outer edge of lens. Is that normal? And what is that light called so I can find a replacement bulb for the driver side? Also the amber part on the outer edge seems to have a bulb inside them and I have never seen them light up... bad bulbs or something really wrong? Thanks beforehand for comments! M |

Re: What lights should be on?
That's the same way my 2002 works. There is a bulb under the amber part too. I'd pull the needed bulbs out and have Autozone match them up for you.

so the extra light?
So the extra light should be on solid when the blinker is on?
And how many blinkers per side are there total on the front? One towards the middle... is the amber at the and a blinker too or just a reflector? |

Quote:
You have one blinker per side on the front -- the amber ones. They serve as daytime driving light as well in Canada. |

Re: What lights should be on?
I apologize if I'm wrong, but I believe the centermost lights are the daytime running lights and also the only front blinkers. Next, going outward, are the headlights and high beams.
The lights outside those are the cornering lamps. They come on whenever blinkers are engaged, for extra visibility when taking turns at night. The furthest-out lights are refered to as 'sidemarkers' in the OM, they stay lit at night (or when you turn them on, left branch off the steering column). I thought they should blink too, but they dont. These use 194 bulbs and are simple to replace (even for a car idiot like me). You just pop the hood, pull up the two plastic clips holding in the light assembly, pull assembly forward, take the cap off the outermost light and replace the bulb. Get some extra 194s as they also go in the shifter/console indicator and seem to burn out every few years for most Intrigue owners. I hope your Intrigue does well by you. I also just bought my '99 3.5 GX (last spring). A few quirks here and there, but I'm still really happy with it. |

Sidemarker lights
The sidemarker lights ARE supposed to remain on constantly whenever your turn signals are on. Their purpose is to illuminate the area into which you're turning, as your headlights don't do this for you. I think it's a good idea, and they should be standard equipment on even a Yugo (they've been on upscale car models for years).

OK, just to get everything straight. From the center to the side, there are:
DRL/front turn signals high beams low beams cornering lights amber sidemarkers Now correct me if I'm wrong, the only thing that blinks with the turn signals are the DRL's. There are no flashing turn signals visible from the side of the car?? I've been trying to figure out why my amber sidemarkers do not flash (they remain lit whenever the headlights are on) when I have my turn signals on. It may just be that they're not supposed to. But it was my impression that turn signal indicators must also be visible from the side of the car. The cornering lamps are a blessing, by the way.

Right...
That's kind of my original question... so the markers are not supposed to blink? Or is the electrics just messed up in my Olds? |

Re: What lights should be on?
Yeah, I've done some researching and I'm pretty certain that the amber sidemarkers/reflectors should not blink when the turn signals are on.

Re: What lights should be on?
The sidemarkers DO NOT BLINK when the turn signals are on. You do see this, in some cars, but not our Intrigues.
