Sound Problems
Hey can someone help me out real quick??? I was playing a game on my 'puter when the sound cut out all of a sudden. I wasn't real happy so I quit the game and the little speaker was gone from the tray. So I went into the Sounds and Audio Devices thing in the control panel and the volume stuff was all "iced" out, with a message that reads: "No audio device" I made sure all the speakers and the sub were all plugged in correctly. I'm using XP Pro and it's a Sound Blaster sound card if that makes any difference. Any help will be very appreciated.

Re: Sound Problems
Reboot. Sometimes XP decides my NIC doesn't exist. If that doesn't fix it, reinstall your sound card drivers. Sucks, but that's Microsoft's programming for you.

Re: Sound Problems
I tried rebooting a few times...so I guess it's to the drivers.

Its most likely the way in which objects are handled in the microsoft environment. Since windows is an OO application and the OS is responsible for functions which encapsulates the user from lower level access, its most likely been a referencing error while it was doing it "garbage collection". Garbage collection is normally done to ensure resources that aren't use are returned to the system which may be used in future time, and your sound functionality may be referenced for garbage collection by accident or the sound functionality use some objects which it referenced for garbage collection but windows could not remove it thus it remove the object via the next abstract layer upwards.
I wouldn't necessary called it a bug, but just a logic error in some sort. |
