Disillusioned Yanks eye NZ
06 November 2004
By ANN-MARIE JOHNSON

Inquiries from Americans wanting to move to New Zealand have "exploded" since George W Bush was re-elected president.

The Immigration Service's website had 10,300 hits from the United States the day after the election. Usually it gets 2500 hits a day.

And the phones of its US marketing directors in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Portland, Oregon, have been ringing nonstop since the election.

Marketing director Don Badman said there had been up to 300 telephone calls and emails a day.

"We've been doing this for 11 months and it's been building up to about six to eight calls a day, but from Thursday it's exploded. It really started picking up from 11pm the night of the election."

The San Francisco Chronicle reported that many Americans were inquiring about moving to New Zealand, Australia and Canada as a result of the election.

Good ridens to those who want to move. I'm just still having a really tough time fatheming the extreme hatred of Bush. What happened to just disagreeing and moving on when your candidate lost? How did people b/c so idiotic?

I may disagree with Kerry or Clinton or whomever, but I don't hate them just b/c i disagree with their policies and I would not move out if Kerry would have been elected.

Re: Welcome!

You know what's funny about this? I've been wanting to move to NZ since the 3rd year of his first term.

Re: Welcome!

Makes sense to me, lotta people think canada is looking pretty good right about now, I think they're abandoning America to those who would do it harm. We have family friends who are BIG republicans who moved to New Zealand, of course it was before Bush became Fuhrer. Ohh I hear theres great fishing there, yet another pluss!

Re: Welcome!

Canada Had 120,000 Inquiries Wednesday, It's Settled Down To 65,000 A Day, But The Norm Is 20,000 So Its Still Way Up!

Texas, If You Could Understand What A Large Part Of The World Hates About Bush, Or Finds Terrifying, You Would Be Able To Understand Why They Wanted Out.

Idiotic Is A Matter Of Perspective, They Are Now Wondering Why The Majority Of Americans Were Idiotic Enough To Vote For Him.

Honestly, I think the liberal wing of the democratic party is done in this country. They have aligned themselves with such extremists and extreme ideology that they have marginalized themselves politically. Instead of debating the merits of their positions they choose to kick and scream whenever challenged or get in your face and slap it when you dare disagree. I think Americans as a whole are fairly fed-up with them. As ignorant or appalling as it may seem to you we are still a country based on religion, morals, and values.

Re: Welcome!

Most atheists have morals and values, just not the same ones as alot of very religious people. I'm a proud atheist.

Morals and values have to be based on a belief system with judgement and consequences. Humanistic atheism is based on nothing and has no consequences beyond law of man, and our laws are based on theology. I think it takes a lot more strenghth to have faith than none at all.

Just what NZ needs....a bunch more liberals.

The Kerry faction is a worse group of losers than I figured. Good patriots who want to better their nation? Nah....whining spoiled babies who if they don't get their way want to take their ball and go home (or to NZ).

Re: Welcome!

Yay mass exodus. So glad that I won't have to listen to as much whining as normal, although now that I think about it the ones who stay will probably whine more just to take over for the ones who left.

Re: Welcome!

the part i REALLY don't get with religion is faith...

it's cute, and yerah it has to take strength to believe in something blindly despite all provable/tangible evidence to the contrary. Really anybody like that has no right to criticise kids about believing in monsters in the closet or santa...

those yanks are gonna have a hard time... they dont want to be in the states, everyone there seems to hate them because they don't like war or they think gay people should have equal rights, or they don't like the idea of killing ALL the muslims, and people outside the US will hate them even more because they are american!
