smoky engine
I just took out the WHOLE air silencing unit, and yea it made a huge difference in the sound, and I really like it so Naturally I took my baby out to have a little fun... well, its a lot more responsive and all that but thats not the topic here... anyways, I was obviously giving it hell, and when I got back home there was smoke coming from under my hood. I looked to see where it was coming from and it looked to be coming from under the intake manifold. It even kind of appeared to be coming OFF the intake manifold. that didnt make any sense to me though, so I kept looking, but didnt find the source. It didnt really smell like oil or coolant, but I opened the oil case anyways just to check, but no smoke from there. It kind of just smells like steam, MAYBE with a hint of coolant, but I usually smell coolant from my car anyways... I dont know much about engines. I dont know anything about engines. is there anything I could check for, or look at to diagnose the problem? If I looked and saw something that might be obvious to most people, I wouldnt really know the difference, so Im looking for even obvious suggestions. what could be producing a steamy smoke from near, or below the intake manifold? that is my question... thanks.... I would imagine that you overheated the engine a little bit. And some steam just got onto the manifold and made it steam. I've done the same thing. Except it was mixed with brake steam too.

so is that a problem? I was watching my temp gauge the whole time and the highest it got to was "normal". I replaced my t-stat with a 180 degree t-stat, and I have a perfectly good radiator fan, so I dont have overheating problems. I mean, I know that its from running the shit out of it because it doesnt do that when I just cruise, but what kind of problem is the smoke indicating when I drive like that? hmmm, I just remembered that right before I went home I turned my a/c on. Sometimes I do that so the fan will kick on and cool the car down. (I like it to be running cold) Maybe I had condensation dripping that was causing it. But if anybody can think of anything else besides that, Im all ears... err, eyes... er whatever.
