91 S-10 Blazer Snow Plow Selection

I have a 91 S-10 blazer that I want to put a snow plow on. Has anyone here been able to find a hydraulically actuated snow plow that doesn't exceed the front axle weight limit? Any suggested front end or suspension mods? It doesn't have to be street legal, I'll be using it on my property in the mountains where we get 10 feet of snow every winter.

Please don't take this the wrong way but I really think you should reevaluate what you want to do. We currently have an '86 with plow on it at the shop and after seeing it I feel that it isn't that great. However, it is a 6 foot Meyers with angle. All told the entire unit with lift weighs in the neighborhood of 350 lbs. I believe the history of it is that it was bought 2 years ago, the blade was installed and now it is for sale, it was used only 1 year, quite heavily at a Mall. The salt used took it's toll.

If you have a farm type tractor with a 3 point hitch, you might want to consider a pusher blade or scraper blade. It will outpush the Blazer especially in deeper snow.

This truck was used as a surf fishing truck so it already has rust holes in the body panels. When you say the salt took its toll, do you mean on the truck or the plow assembly? I intend to plow a dirt driveway about 300 ft. long. I have V-bar mud and snow chains on my tires, if I weight the truck will this help me push or do I need a truck with more horsepower?

In terms of the salt taking it's toll, the Upper and Lower control arms are bad, real bad, the metal in some areas is paper thin and I pushed a finger through it. The brake lines are twice the size of normal and one is already leaking. They all need to be replaced. The tires are inflated 5 lbs over recommended pressure as per the sidewalls and they are only about 2/3 up.

I'm sure you would have plenty of power from a 4.3 L but I wonder about the rest of it, especially if you start talking drifts, but then, this one wasn't mounted to well. The way it was mounted, it will only lift the plow about 8 inches before it hits the bumper. A whole new subframe should have been fabricated so that the pivots on the A frame of the plow would have been below the bumper to allow greater lift clearance.

Heck, if you never gonna run it on the road and you have everything for it, go for it. The reason they want to sell it is due to the fact that it didn't live up to what they expected. They since went to a Jeep.

Re: 91 S-10 Blazer Snow Plow Selection

Thanks for the info. I'll be installing it myself as the truck is not street legal. I'm going to buy a welding machine so I can fabricate any kind of subframe I need. I'm still concerned about the weight, although 350 lbs. is a lot lighter than some of the ones I've seen. Maybe it would help to put stiffer springs and new control arm bushings in. I still have plenty of time to work on it. It doesnt have to be ready for this season, I'm planning ahead for next year.

True, but don't think the tranny will hold out for long and the front end will be shot in no time.
