Running rich

It looks like my '97 3.8 is still running rich. I can smell the gasoline in the exhaust, though the machine has good power in all ranges and good idle. Any ideas?

Re: Re: Running rich

Unfortunately, no. Like I said, it has power and runs smooth, it just seems to be running a tad rich, still. I'm thinking maybe the MAF is reading high and the PCM is dumping more gas than it has to into the cylinders.

Re: Running rich

It would seem that the problem is within the correctable range of the PCM.

I have heard of people cleaning their MAF. Search this forum for the procedure.

I am not sure about you being able to smell the gas in the exhaust. I would think the cats would burn the excess fuel.

The MAF is a possibility. But have you tried "listening" ...using a hose... to each injector to determine if they all "click" the same?

Good question. Yes, I am very familiar with the sound of my injectors and they all sound the same.
