Temp Guage

Hello I have a 89 Honda civic hatchback with a 1.5 liter engine, 4 speed transmission. I'm installing a Autometer temp Gauge and in middle of hooking it up, I can't find the old temp sending unit. I looked in the Hayes Manual where it would be.... Looking for it and feeling for it on termostat housing... I can't find anything but water hoses. Is there a option that I could do other than drilling and tapping, I really really don't want to do that. Thank you for time and info.

your heat temp sensor is the small sensor under the Dist. The one you are mistakenly looking for is the fan switch. So look just under the dist. and its the one with one wire.

I found it.... Thanks a lot, now I got another problem..... The sending unit that comes with this autometer gauge is either too big or too small.... This stock sending unit has 2 wires to it, black and red wire. I'm thinking I'm just gonna splice the wire and run it to the gauge. Would this be a good idea? Thanks for time and info

Dang, I think I'm having a stupid day.... I found the real temp sending unit on the motor block, ir's RIGHT underneath the dist. It's so under there that it's not even funny. Thanks for all of your help

I'm gonna say the black wire is for a ground maybe?

i'm curious if its still ok to splice into that wire tho

You can splice into it but it may cause more resistance and cause both your stock and your aftermarket gauge to work incorrectly. Im not even sure if a aftermarket gauge will work right with a stock honda sending unit. Usually the aftermarkets come with there own sensor.
