Re: K&N AIR FILTER

I will tell you it will be the best thing you could do. You will notice a huge difference! You will be able to get one cheap for the 5.7 liter if it is the round one. If it is, you can also take the lid, and turn it upside down for even more airflow. If you are considering it, don't consider anymore-GO GET ONE you'll be glad you did!

Gas milage

I did indeed get better milage, and even better when the lid for the air filter is turned upside down!
I promise, you will see the difference right away!

K&N

I'm not a sales man for K&N.....

I got the K&N Filter for just under $50 and installed in in 5 mins on my 03 Yukon. A bit more noise which is fine with me, a bit better fuel milage [.3 MPG] but I also noticed a bit better acceleration and overall more power.

Just a bit. Nothing huge. YMMV and all that.

FWIW I always run K&N on all my vehicles, period. They work better than paper at stopping crap from going into the intake and pay for themselves easily compared to buying new paper elements all the time.

i have a 04 Yukon and was thinking on ordering the KN Filter, but then i found the KN cold Air Intake. Dont know if i should spend the extra money on the whole intake or just replace the filter. Any suggestions?

Re: K&N AIR FILTER

I swear by them too. I would certainly get the "cold air box" or series 77 style that replaces the accordian intake with the smooth metal tube style. There is definantly more noise under the hood (the roar of air acctually getting into your engine). I did several upgrades right off the bat on my 2004 Yukon 4.8 liter; all under 3000 miles, so I cant really tell an accurate mileage gain. However after now about 8600, I run full synthetic oil, Flowmaster 60 series muffler, gibson headers, and a 77 series K-n-N, I am geting (now that the motor has broke in) consistant 17.8 - 18.3 MPG in town and 22.1 on the last 60 mile highway trip I made at 72 MPH average.....so Im happy.

Another great way to help in town mileage if you run no faster that 45 MPH, run your truck in 3rd gear vs. Drive..... that helps the engine from always haveing to constanly shift and lag in a higher gear...easier on the transmission too.

Where did you get the filter four that price? Are you just referring to the filter alone; that is after you have purchased the intake sytem?
Thanks

filter $$

I just ordered it up from NAPA. This is just the filter itself. Replaces the paper element. i am only getting 14.5 mpg so would really love to be getting better milage. Mine is an 03. headers & muffler gets you that increase? If you wouldn;t mind, can you give me specifics [part numbers, cost, installation etc notes] thanks!

What size engine do you have? I just filled up again tonight and show 17.7 MPG in town. I have a 4.8 in a 04 SLT Yukon. I bought the headers from a cataloge at about $400 and put them on myself with another buddy in my garage. The muffler is a Flowmaster 60 Which I bought on-line for around $90 after shipping. Had a shop put it on with crome tip for around $70. The K&N is a series 77 which I put on in about 20 minutes in my garage as well for about $200 I think. Im happy with the performance and mileage. I am going on another highway trip this thanksgiving holiday, so I will let you know what that is.

Remember that headers have always been "free horsepower" to any engine. A 1962 ford to a 2005 Sierra; -headers will ALWAYS give better performance and milage. Also remember that an engine is a big air pump -more air in( K&N), more air out (headers) is always good.

Didn't you have to reprogram your computer after putting the headers?

K&N's work great. I put one on my 96 Yukon after the first year and there was indeed a SOTP difference. My milage did not really improve until after I had about 50K. I now get about 18MPG on my 5.7ltr

Re: K&N AIR FILTER

Like Bevl Hvn, I just added the K&N filter primarily for better filtration & long-life. I noticed a bit more "umph" in acceleration, but not that much. Would like to swap the exhaust (headers on back), and reprogram computer, but funds are a bit scarce with 2 kids, and looking to by a house.

I have an '02 Yukon w/ 76K miles on it (5.3L). It was used mostly for state-to-state travel & my daily commute to work. Got this before I was married w/ children (ode to Al Bundy). My wife drives it now, and doesn't drive more than 10 miles a day.

What do you mean 'with the lid turned upside down'?

Does it still latch and is the filter exposed?

Can you post a picture?

Re: K&N AIR FILTER

I should have mentioned that it was already installed in my Yukon when I bought it. So I have no idea of before and after performance.
