New for me '93

Hi all!
I'm considering buying a '93 G20 with 56K miles. What should I look for when I test drive it tomorrow? It has auto trans., leather, power sunroof, etc...What kinds of problems might I look for? What should I expect for problems in the next 5 years with such a late model? Anyone have a '93 and can give me the inside scoop? What should I pay? What car can I reasonably compare it with? All insights, opinions, and advice are welcome!

Unless you do a lot of city driving, look for a stick shift instead.

IIRC there was some issue with a resistor for the heater fan.

Check the shifts of the auto when hot - sometimes they are jerky. Especially going into reverse or drive/1/2/etc form a standstill.
Often this can be fixed by changing the fluid and the pan filter if it's not too far gone.

Occassionally the rear calipers can get seized. Check for warped front disks shown by a wobbly steering wheel under braking.

Look through the maintenance forum, that'll give you a good idea.

I have a mechanical backround but, as well as checking the car out as well as I can, I still fork out for a car inspection service before I buy.

Drive as many P10s as possible so you are comparing apples with apples.

^ What he said!!!

If you want to compare this with any other car, compare it with Nissan Maximas, Altimas, and for engine-comparisons Sentra SE-Rs. There isn't much else out there that has the same style. Both the Maxima and Altima are larger than the G20 (the 1991-96 versions are called "P10" to differentiate between the body updates). I personally have the P10, but mine is stick. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. But I think you'll find us a "bit" biased!

Adodini - If you're still deciding, make sure the A/C blows cold. I looked at many G20's which had non-functioning air (especially on early models with the extinct refrigerant [R12?]). Also, make sure to get a carfax report (drove a few G's which had shady history, too). BTW. is this a 1993.5 model (airbags instead of auto-belts)?

The G20 was the only sedan I test drove that wasn't a big letdown fun-wise in comparison to the massaged A2 GTI I had at the time. It is the only car I've ever bought where I had no trace of regret about my purchase after the fact.

I hope you buy a G20, and we continue to see your posts.

-Regards, Don
