Player Resetting
I bought a car (VW Golf '01) last week that unfortunately did not come with a radio. So the next day I bought myself a generic ("Centrum") style cd/radio player for the car. Hooked it all up without much of a hitch, and everything works fine...
...until the next time I start the car, and the cd/radio player has reset itself and lost all of its settings (pre-programmed stations, bass/treble, etc.). I've read in another thread that this is due to miswiring - and in that example, the person needed to connect a wire to the chassis (grounding?). However, in my case this doesn't seem to be an option: the connectors are 2 ISO cables, which are already prewired and apparently compatible (since everything worked off the at as soon as I connected them). The only other "connection" is the antenna - and I can find no additional wires! Incidently, the reset happens not when I turn the car off - but when I remove the key from the ignition (the flashing LED on the player also goes out). Any ideas? |

Re: Player Resetting
sounds like your permanent power wire is connected to the switched power, so every time you take out the key the cd player behaves as if you unplugged the battery completely and everything resets.

Hmmm... makes sense to my novice ears...
Anything I can do to fix this easily, or would I have to rewire the ISO plugs (which sounds wrong, since the whole idea of the ISO's are to save you the hassel I thought!)? Last edited by Skwanny; 11-05-2004 at 04:21 PM. |

Re: Player Resetting
I'm not really sure what those ISO plugs are exactly....

Well whaddaya know!!!!!!
In searching the web for a photo/description of an ISO plug, I may have stumbled across the answer to my question ![]() http://www.add-a-cdchanger.co.uk/add..._guide.htm#iso Funny that I would find a possible answer here, when doing a proper search for the solution on Google didn't help me find a thing

Re: Player Resetting
wow, that is some wierd stuff, I usuall just go to walmart, and buy that wire harness that plugs to my vehicle, and then solder it to the wire harness off the deck. Usually its easy, black to black, red to red sort of thing. Leave it to volkswagon to switch the constant 12+ yellow wire and the switched 12+ red wire around. Thats wacky, but I'll keep that in mind when installing in future vehicles. Have a nice day, and good luck.
