Brake indicator light on 95 3000GT

Hello,

Just noticed this morning that my BRAKE indicator light on instrument cluster is remaining on. I checked fluid level and it looked OK, checked to be sure actual brake lights were working (they were). Made sure parking brake was also not on.

I am assuming that light just means brake fluid level is low??

Can anyone confirm this. That light does not monitor brake pad condition does it?

Thanks for any info!

I think i have the same problem for the past month or two everytime i accelerate from a complete stop my brake light on the dash stays lit up until i let go of the gas. I do have a back left light out but dont think that matters any? Also i thought before that when i used my e brake you had to push in the button to pull it up but now it feels loose. (Have an auto if that helps any too). Might sound kinda confusing any ideas guys? Is it fluid like he was talkin about?

Re: Brake indicator light on 95 3000GT

Italian...you are definantly low on brake fluid...it lights up when you floor it, becuase the g-force causes the brake fluid to move to the other side of the reseviour and the sensor thinks that you are out of fluid...so just put some more in, check the manual for details.

Pensfan, I think it does monitor the pads...I honestly don't remember off the top of my head...it should say in teh manual though...and I'd go out and check mine if it weren't 25 degrees outside.
Are you getting any squealing from the brakes yet?

definitely check the brake fluid and fill if low. however, get back to me if this doesn't solve your problem. sometimes the brake light will remain on if your parking brake cable has been stretched, and thus your parking brake will not fully disengage, so the light will remain on. there are several options to fixing this problem, of which i can outline if filling the brake fluid doens't solve your problem.

Re: Brake indicator light on 95 3000GT

I'm not so sure about just topping the fluid off, because unless there is a leak, it's all still in there. That's your first sign that your pads are getting low (more fluid is needed because the piston in the caliper has to be pushed further due to the pads being worn so the level in the resevoir goes low enough to trigger the brake warning light). So check out your brake pads, if it's not that, the e-brake stretching thing wasn't a bad guess, otherwise it could be a short at the brake switch at the pedal (doubt that though). I also have a question about this though, just so I don't have to go out in the cold and search for anything. When I put my ebrake on, the light doesnt come on...is the plug right on the ebrake or where, so i dont have to go searching in this freaking freezing weather!!!

Re: Brake indicator light on 95 3000GT

I just tightned my E brake up and that solved the problem I think.

Re: Brake indicator light on 95 3000GT

Still check your brake pads as Technical Automan is completely right...if you catch worn down pads early enough, it will save your rotors.
