1998 740il Navigation System
I recently purchased a 98 740il and the navigation system thinks the vehicle is in the next county. The system appears to be tracking the vehicles movement it is just about 100 miles off. Has anyone else had this problem or lnow of a way to fix it without taking it to the dealer?

Re: 1998 740il Navigation System
I have a portable navigation system that has done this in the past. Most likely it's the map alignment. I had to reinstall all the software on my system.
I don't know how the GPS work in the cars, have you tried reloading the map? |

Navigation Problem
I had exact, same problem with 2000 740il. It turns out to be a faulty GPS receiver. In the 2000, MkII systems, the receiver is a separate box, located in trunk wall, on driver side, near the GPS CD Unit. As soon as I replaced the GPS receiver, $31.00 from Ebay, system began working perfectly. BMW dealer wanted to charge $80 diagnosis fee, plus almost $500 for new receiver. Hooray for Ebay!!!
