2000 Millenia Knock Sensor
My mom-in-law has a 2k0 Millennia with 40K miles (very clean). She has had a problem with the check engine light coming on. After paying 75.00 at local dealer for a diagnostic test, she was told that is it an intermittent problem with knock sensor. Estimated repair costs $500.00. Is this a fair price for this repair? My research shows that this is a common weakness in this motor and that you need to remove the manifold to access part... 3 to 4 hours labor??? Should I advise her to go to independent repair shop for a 2nd opinion?
Any advice appreciated. |

Part costs online
Found a cost on the Ingnition Knock (Detonation) sensor.... $97.90. So dealer is charging $400.00 for labor. Anyone know if this is fair labor costs for this repari? LMK

Re: Re: Part costs online
Thanks for the advice. I will pass your message along, I am sure it will give my mom-in-law the sense that she is not getting taken. My research shows this thing to be a pain in the rear to get to which seems to justify the repair charges.

Re: 2000 Millenia Knock Sensor
I have the same issue in my 1999.
The reason for the cost is that this sensor is under the exhaust manifold which is a pain in the &*$% to get to. I have put off doing this but after 4 months I am getting significant performance issues now. What are the symptoms your car is experiencing besides the engine light? [email protected] |

Re: Re: Re: Part costs online
Actually my mom-in-laws Mazda. I don't know if she is experiencing other issues or for that matter would realize she is suffering from loss of performance. All I know is that the light has been going on and off. She has had it in to the dealer several times and they have finally diagnosed this as the issue. I believe it is going in Thursday for the repair.

Thanks - Good luck.
I have considered renaming mine to the Mazda 500 - since evertime I take it in to the shop it seems to cost me 500 bucks. Quote:

Re: Re: 2000 Millenia Knock Sensor
Knock sensors are design to eliminate knock caused from using low octane fuel, a faulty sensor will decrease fuel economy and (more important in my book) performance.

Re: Re: Re: 2000 Millenia Knock Sensor
the knock sensor on a 2.3 millercycle engine is under the supercharger intake. you have to remove the supercharger and the bracket that holds the supercharger just follow the only wires there are going under it and there you wil be good luck.
