Smile 84 Bronco with 300 6I Emissions removal! HELP

Hello! I have an 84 Bronco with the 300 six that I just rebuilt. However I would really like to remove (ok I have removed most of it) the emissions junk. I am not getting that great of gas mileage with it on my way to the trails... and when I get there I don't see the emissions really helping with power. Is there anyone who has removed the emissions junk from thier engine? if so what did you do with the extra wires and lines? Also can I just remove that extra spacer under the carb that the air pump used to be hooked up to? Thanks for taking the time to read Please post comments or suggestions!

emissions shiet

I have a 85' full size bronco with the 351W (HO). I have removed all of the emissions equiment from my truck as it is used for off-road only. To make it easier, remove the smog pump completely, alot of people just remove the belt but i like the nice clean look. on my engine, the smog and AC share a belt from the crank, and my AC was allready gone so that made it no problem. After thats done, remove every single vaccum line and throw them away(except the brake booster line). remove all the valves, diaphrams and connectors and kepp them. Plug up anything related to emissions, and then run NEW vaccumm line to the necessary components ONLY, just what makes the motor able to run. THe best way to tell if somthing is emissions equipment or necessary motor function is by getting a vaccumm gauge, hook up a basic vaccumm system from the manifold to the distributer and carb, and crank the motor. if it runs and pulls good vaccum (18+ inches of merc) without any weird hissing noises then youre set to jet.
When i took my system off i tried doing it all sloppy style and eventually ended up buying new vaccum hose and rebuilding the entire vaccum system. Much better beacuse the old hose will crack and leak when you take it off and play around with it or whatever.

Now, the most important part of emissions removal is to get an aftermarket exhaust manifold, without the restrictive EGR valve in it and without a cat bolted on to it. get iether a glasspack or a turbo style muffler to keep that exhaust flowing and you should have some very noticable torque and horsepower gains, as well as improved gas mileage and slightly cooler engine temp.

the 1984 emisions systems used are not really all that harmful to your horsepower, the main draw is from the smog pump, but it cant be more than 5-10 HP. If you do what i say your main increase in power will be from the exhaust system.
The reason i removed my emissions was beacuse the EGR left nasty carbon deposits in my intake manifold and behind my intake valves, and beaucuse the headers i got did not support the EGR exhaust manifold valve. If the egr wasnt so darn dirty i probally would have left it on.

about the gas mileage, try screwing around with the carb and replace the spark plugs, distributer cap and rotor, and put in some lucas oil stabilizer and carb cleaner.
