Question Bulldog Security T-Harness For 1989 Park Avenue

Hello all! Anyone here have any experience with Bulldog Security Auto Starter. This company makes T-Harnesses so that you can connect the starter without splicing the factory harness. The only thing is, they don't list one for a 1989 Park Avenue, only a 1996. They do list 1982-1988 LeSabre and 1989-1999 LeSabre. I called the Bulldog techs and they said the wiring is the same, the plugs may be different, they are not sure. Is the LeSabre and Park Avenue the same vehicle? Has anyone had any experience with what I am trying to do? Thanks!

Wink

I installed a remote starter on my 90 LeSabre Limited. The T-harness is called a GM-2 from bulldog. I can't comment if it's the one you need but I can say that it does make the job a hell of lot easier. Try to talk to the Pres of the company and he'll hook you up with the top tech. The names escape since it was over a year since I did the install. Once installed and working, it works like a charm, especially in the Canadian winter.

Thanks for the reply. Where is the harness located on the vehicle? I believe it is at the base of the steering column. Is that correct? Also, do you think a 1989 PA is the same as your 1990 LeSabre?

Re: Bulldog Security T-Harness For 1989 Park Avenue

You're right about the location. It's to the left of the base of the steering column. I would think that the PA is the same as the LeSabre. My Haynes Repair manual includes the PA along with the LeSabre. So I would assume the wiring is the same except that your PA has more upgrades as standard. I would order it but ask about their return policy. Of course you'll have to pick up shipping it back if it's not the right one. Based on Haynes both cars fall under C and H body GM cars.
Which model remote are you putting in? I saw a new one at Sam's club called model 500 I believe that has a great LCD remote. It's a alarm, remote entry, remote starting and a few other features. I plan on putting into my wife's 91 LeSabre.

The bulldog's equipment is spotty at best. Some that I have installed seemed to work great for some but not for others. I just tore out a bulldog and installed another brand for someone last week. As far as the t-harnesses, many companies offer them but on your cars, you only need to hook up a handfull of wires anyway so the extra money spent on it doesn't really justify it.....my $.02

Thanks for the reply! Well, I was planning on getting the RS-82P. This is a starter only. The other units available that pop the locks and the trunk require splicing into the associated harnesses. I don't wish to do that. I can handle it, I am an electronics technician. Splicing into factory wiring never sat well with me. Besides, this cream puff is immaculate. I purchased it from my friend's father last year. It only had 36,000 pampered, garaged miles on it. He purchased a new PA and the dealer offered him $300.00 for it. He is 86 years old, he told the salesman he must be smokin' crack and sold it to me for $1000.00. The only thing wrong with it is the rear chrome bumper cover. It is rusted all to hell. Must have been a defect in the chroming. I haven't seen another '89 with a rusted cover yet.

Ponchonutty, you mentioned other manufacturers that offer T-Harnesses as well, who are they? I did a Google search and could only come up with Bulldog.

Thumbs up

You might want to add the trunk and door locks features, if you don't already have these as standard equipment on the PA. I thought the same way but soon found that it was a pain as did the rest of the family as they waited for me to fumble with the keys. Waiting in minus degree weather doesn't sit well with teenagers and wives. So after buying the remote only starter from Bulldog I upgraded to the RS 1200 - I believe. Now me being an electronics hobbiest (and that's a stretch) I delved into the trunk and door locks wiring with the help of my Haynes manual. With you being a tech this should be a piece of cake. In addition, that model has those features included so why not get your money's worth. The trunk release is a great, especially since my son's hockey equipment is going in and out constantly. I hardly ever use my keys! I don't know of any other company selling the T-harness other than Bulldog's distributor. I think its got to be the best value for your money for this type of equipment. Good Luck!

A lot of them offered them like DEI, Excaliber and others but you don't see them much anymore. New car wiring is much different now than what it was 10 years ago. You outta look at Gm's Colorado to do a remote starter on!!!

I 2nd the thought on the keyless. There's only 2 more wires to deal with for the locks and one for the trunk.
