Angry I have a problem and a question

I have a 1996 chevy cavalier and it still won't start right. The only way to get it to start is to run a hot wire to the injectors and then you can't even rev it up. Then when you turn on the switch there is fire going to the injectors, but when you try to crank it, there is no fire to the injectors. My mechanic told me that it sounds like there is suppose to be a cumputer disc in the key, which there is a hole in the key but nothing there. The theft lite comes on. I called the chevrolet garage and had them look up my car by vin # and they told me that my car does not have a chip in the key and that it doesn't even have a theft or security system and don't know why there is even a theft lite in it. Has anyone had any problems like this, or do you know what may be wrong with it.

Re: I have a problem and a question

Good insurance and a book of matches.

All kidding aside this may take some time. You are going to need to get under the dash to see what security system is in there and the you can find out how to bypass or turn it off. Good luck.

I have been trying to find the security system under the dash, but it is not there, We have no insurance on it, that would have been my solution. My mechanic told me that I will probably have to change the wiring harness in the long run.

That is not an easy job.

Yes, I do know that that is not an easy job, none of the junk yards around here has any cavaliers (of course, because they are good cars). And the chevy garage told me that it had been discontinued. If all else fails there is a crusher around here.

Re: I have a problem and a question

Maybe the key? Take it and have a copy made on another key without the hole in it.

My 2 cents…

Re: I have a problem and a question

Sounds to me like the ecm quad driver took a dump. The thingy that controls the injectors you are looking in the wrong place. The 96 Cav did not have that type of securty system on it
Look at the ecm data and see if its sending the injection pluse signal
