New to me car

I just picked up a 1989 CRX DX for 500 dollars. The guy is leaving the country and just pretty much wanted to get rid of it. I live in the NW so it is very hard to find cars that old without rust but this car has never seen one winter it spent all of its time in Cali. The car runs pretty decent. I dont think he was really good with any kind of upkeep or anything. I am planning on doing a engine swap but it may be another year. If you had 400 dollars to put into the car what would you do with it. It will be a everyday driver and this spring I am going to start autocrossing it. Plans are of right now. New spark plugs, new brake pads, fuel filter, oil change both engine and transmission fix a few little things like rear hatch struts but I dont what else I should do. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

If its going to be a daily driver for another year... and you may start autocrossing.... $400 isnt a lot. Are you planning on useing this 400 to do the tune up u described, if so, i would take the rest and maybe star working on your suspension, sway bars, strut tower braces, the basic cheap stuff to start.

Re: New to me car

check everything plastic. especially stuff like brake lines and radiator hoses. i had a lot of deterioration on mine. also include driveaxle boots, and the boot on the shifter ( i just discovered TODAY that the boot on my shifter is torn all the way around. bleah. works fine though.)

other than that, you're on the right track there.
