Lowered + stock shocks ???

Hi, I have a question for my froend. He got a 97 accord, lowered to about 3" with stock shocks. He was wondering what will happen if he does NOT get aftermarket shocks ??

He asked me that question, but I changed my shocks before they went out because I want better handling. So I never know what's the effect of using stock shocks eventually.....

Hope you guys can help him out....

Re: Lowered + stock shocks ???

They'll foam and then they'll blow. The liquid in them will start to foam and seep out from the stress and it'll get everywhere and make a mess. Then they'll stop foaming and with no liquid in them, they won't dampen the spring any more. You'll be able to feel every pothole magnified by 10 times and dips in the road will cause you to bottom out possibly breaking off a lip or bodykit. It's really fun on the highway cause when you get a series of dips, the car will bounce higher and higher until keeping control of the car will become difficult.

hmm...thx a lot rice-rocketeer !!!
that's really helpful.

Anyway, how long does it usually take for that bad thing to happen ?
If it;s quick then I'll just tell him to get some aftermarket shocks pretty fast

Have a nice weekend !!!!

No problem bro. How long it takes depends on alot of things. How have the shocks been treated over thier life span? How low is the drop? What's the area look like, potholes, etc? How's his drving habits?

It took me about 2 or 3 months to blow them with a 2.5 inch drop and crappy roads.

damn rice.........you experience the hoping and bouncing with the stock shocks? well anyway....
i have had my stock shocks with 2 1/2 inch springs on my car for almost a year now. suprisingly my stocks are still in great shape, and i can't believe it. but as soon as they go, i am getting some yellows. so there is no set time for the shocks to blow out on lowered springs.
later

Well, I think it also depends on how long have you had your stock shocks too...

Like your car is year 98, so total age is like 4 yrs.
Mine car is 94, so the shocks have been working soooo hard hehehe for 7 damn years :smoker2: before finally I put the yellows on.

Yellows are nice but they're freakin' expensive !!! Hate the price tag

my car is lowered quite a bit (never bothered to measure... theyre coilovers) and on stock shocks. The ride kinda sucks cuz you feel everything, but its not all that bouncy... and Ive had it lowered for like 7 - 8 months.

I plan on getting yellows as soon as they go (and im really looking forward to paying so much for them!! yay!)
