My 95 Accord EX fan is running by itself when the car is off. This wouldn't see unusual if I had just been driving the car and it needed to cool off, but it was parked for 2 days. After the frost melted off the car this morning, the fan started running. It's been running for 4 hours and I'm sure it will drain the battery at some point.
Any ideas? |

Re: Fan running by itself
either the engine coolant temp sensor (which tells the fan to cut on at a certain temp), relay, or the fan motor gone out.

Re: Fan running by itself
The fan motor is ok if it is running. But the other two items could be the cause.

Thank you. I had to disconnect the battery to stop the fan. I just wanted to narrow the probable cause before I let the shop people at it.

Re: Fan running by itself
it happens to alot of the 96-97 accords, for mines, it was only like that in the summer, i would get outta my car, and if i just stick around for a few seconds the fan would turn on for awhile, then turn off, duno why, doesn't seem like a bad thing but it still worries me, tell me when u find out thx

Re: Fan running by itself

The shop said the "fan timer switch" was not functioning and that should be the cause. The only bummer is that no one appears to have the part in stock (in Pacific NW), so I'm waiting on a parts order for the next few days.... while I pick up the tab for a rental car. I hope the switch turns out to be the issue. I'll let you know after I have my car back.
