Volt meter fluctuates 14 volts to 12 volts

Hi All,

I have a 2000 Chevy Blazer 4x4 4.3L. I have had intermediate problems this past year and don't know if any of them were solved. Last winter the blazer wouldn't start on really cold mornings, but I haven't had a problem with that since it got warmer or since I had the body throttle cleaned out one of the two fixed it (I hope). Also I had the battery replaced thinking that was related to the not starting problem, since Autozone said that they could not get a read on the battery. And just recently I put a new alternator on since I lost all power on the way home from my honeymoon (good story to tell the kids down the road).

The problem now seems to be now that while riding down the road the onboard volt meter will read 14 volts for a while then slowly drop down to 12 volts and shoot back up to 14 volts again. It will do this more than several times on my hour drive to work. Any thoughts?

Thanks!
- Jason

Bad voltage regulator? That would mean another new alternator, or it could be wiring shorted somewhere/bad connection. If you got a new battery I would say it's ok. Check the connections to make sure they're solid and then take it back to autozone and have them test the alternator if all else fails.
