Well thax for the input Slim. It looks like the front clip is welded in so maybe it does have to come out the bottom. Sounds like a pain in the @#%* . Can anybody confirm?

Re: 1995 Engine removeall

do you mean the clip that holds the radiator? im positive that can unbolt out. im almost positive that everything on the front is sapposed to come off. then some how get a engine hoist in there with chains hooked to the motor its going to be cloose but lift aa little or so get the motor mounts off and left it up like a couple more inches and slide it out. thats the only why i can think of right now. i'll go take a look at my dads 95 safari in a sec when i go and clean my rims and let you know it looks in there.
EDIT: ok took a look, everything down to the frame on the from can and is sapposed to come off. except the fenders of course. it almost looks like it can be taken out from the bottom. but all i gotta say is this is going to be a pain in the you know who to get this motor out. i worked on a friends safari's heads once during school shop class. we had to take alot of stuff off to get to the heads. i can only imaging swaping the motor.

I have a 1991 Safari and has to replace the knocking motor, i did it myself, bought a rebuilt engine and installed it from the front, i removed everything in front of the van including air conditioner hoses and some power steering hoses, its pretty tight but it will go in with out the intake manifold and head covers.I'm not familiar with a 1995 safari van but i would think they're very similar, except mine is not a vortec engine, i'm not a professional mechanic but has some experience and automotive knowledge. Good luck

Just did this!

Hi,

Although I am certainly no expert, we had to have the engine replaced in our 1995 Safari. The mechanic did have to pull the engine from the bottom. In the process, he also cut the exhaust, so we had to have that rewelded. it was a real pain, or maybe it was a pain because the mechanic took forever to do the job, who knows. But according to the two mechanics (the one that said he could do the job and the one that actually did it) the engine had to be removed from the bottom.

Engine removal

I was just reading this, and I thought I would give some info on this. i don't know if you already have done it or not. You can remove the engine on this van either from the bottom, or from the front. 1995 was the first year the front crossmember, radiator support was welded in place. You have to cut the support in the front, and purchase a kit to put it together after your done replacing the engine. I know before '95 it was just bolted in place. I did two engines on my '89 from the front. The '95's you had to cut it and fix it after. I think (but not positive) GM reverted to bolting the front support in the newer models again, after a couple of years welding them in(for sure '95).

on the 95s you must buy a (BRACKET SERVICE KIT FROM THE DEALER.)which means you must cut the top radiator support out of the the front of the van to remove the motor..the bracket service kit is what you replace the top rad supports with.when done replacing the motor.that info is in the HAYNES REPAIR MANUAL.i use this book a lot .hope this helps.
