Hesitation and poor acceleration 96 Tercel
My wife's 1996 Tercel hesitates badly and has very poor acceleration. Occasionally it will pull like it used to but it is basically un drivable now due to a lack of power.
It will run. Idles ok. Stumbles badly if I hit the throttle. Any suggestions?

I have the same problem with a late eighties model. I also smell a burning oil-rubberish smell.

I resolved the problem with my wife's car. It was one of the coil packs.
