'99 Grand Prix Heater/AC squealing noise

Just discovered this forum when researching an issue I have. This forum looks great and lot's of info. Here's my issue:

I own a '99 Pontiac Grand Prix, 91K miles. For the last few weeks anytime I put my heat or ac on any setting (1 - 5) I hear this loud squealing noise coming from the vents(?). I have seen some advice for similiar issues, one person said:

"Lubricate the fresh-air fan motor bearings! They're just dry. Try a
bit of spray grease with the plastic tube to get it to the right place.
It'll last longer than WD40."

I have also saw that this could be releated to a blower motor. I am not very "car friendly" but am always willing to try. Does this advise sound okay? Thanks!

the blower motor doesn't have bearings that can be lubricated. Spray lube will quiet it down temporarily, but the only permanent fix is to replace the blower motor.

Thank you for the quick reply. I am going to pick up a Haynes manual this weekend to see how involved replacing the blower motor is. Anybody have an experience in this area? thanks.

other than the fact that it's under the dash and you will be working over your head in a cramped space, it's not a bad job. Should take less than an hour or so, something you should easily be able to do yourself. I would replace the blower resistor while you have the motor dodwn, as they fail soon after the motor due to the excessive amp draw of the motor when they get noisy. It's mounted in the heater box just behind the blower motor.

I replaced the blower motor this weekend, it took about 2 hours. This did fix my problem. Thank you for your help with this.
