B16A2 swap questions

i have a 97 Civic EX and it has the D16Y8 motor with headers, chip, 4-2-1 headers and 2.25" straight piped exhaust. I want to know if i'm going to build a turbo motor is it more practical to swap my engine for a B16 or build up my car. Are the blocks the same and the heads the only difference? What should i do? B16 would breathe better and perform a little better, but if the block is the same i could do a head swap.

Re: B16A2 swap questions

Blocks and heads are not intechangable on D series to B series.

Whether you want to swap depends on your power goals. Ultimate power go B16, mid 13 sec 1/4's on 15 lbs of boost, then keep the Y8.

Re: B16A2 swap questions

How much does a B16A2 engine cost w/o tranny or any accesories (provided the accessories water pump,etc...on my D16 fit on the B16) and what can i expect to get for my engine w/ 88000 miles. Are B16 blocks and bottom ends built up enough to run a turbo eventually?? And finally, does anyone know where i can get a B16A2 for fairly cheap.

Re: B16A2 swap questions

you need to get the whole swap, engine, tranny, mounts, ecu, cv shafts, etc

your old motor is not worth much, but you may be able to part it out and do ok

b16 bottom end can't hold a ton of boost, it can do ok if tuned properly but for high boost it must be built up

there are lots of places to get engines. do a search and read everything you can... there is a lot to learn and i would suggest you learn as much as possible before making your choice

Re: B16A2 swap questions

So if i buy a new B16A2 engine for my car i need basically everything along w/ it. Why wouldn't i just buy a block and go from there because if i buy an engine, i have to just rip into it and put new parts in anyway. This sucks.
