2001 Chevy Sub. Hesitates, Need info. on scan tools.

Hello To All, I'm starting to have problems with my wife's sub.. Can anyone recommend an obd II scanner that I can check the codes with? Not looking for anything fancy just something that I can get started with. The sub. has an intermmitent hesitations and sometimes also smokes (black) on startup. Just started about a week ago. No check engine light.

Thanks

Most auto parts stores have a scanner on hand to check codes, but if you're planning to purchase, JC Whitney has several moderately priced units.

Before buying some fancy scantool, it sounds like you are having a fuel pressure regulator problem. I imagine you have a 5.3 or 6.0L motor. Find the pressure regulator and pull the vacuum hose off(with engine off), if there is fuel in the vacuum line replace the regulator
