Help, I have a 99 Cougar, V6. The battery light came on and everything electrical stopped working, head lights got dim, all the gages stopped and the car started to mis. I pulled into a parts store and had them check the charging system, it was not putting out enough volts, needed an alternator. After about 6 hours I changed the alternator. Now the battery light doesn't come on, and everything seemed fine for a couple of minutes, and then the gages went out and the lights started to get dim again, but the battery light doesn't come on. Does anybody have an idea where I should go from here? Has anyone had a similar problem?
Thanks for any help, Dom |

Re: battery not charging
The same thing just happened to me. I had the rebuilt alternator tested, and it passed. Now, the battery light is on, but very dim. Is it the same with your car?

Re: Re: battery not charging
I would check the voltage regulator in your charging system. The old alternator could have damaged it.
