Potential Drift Viper Replacement Shown at SEMA - SRT6 Crossfire Roadster!

Chrysler Crossfire Drifter
Chrysler Crossfire meets the latest motorsports craze.

Powered by a 400-horsepower supercharged version of the 3.2-liter V-6 found in the Chrysler Crossfire SRT6, the ultra-lightweight Chrysler Crossfire Drifter features a variety of “drift-oriented” modifications. Its extreme stance is highlighted by a full body kit that includes a front and rear fascia with integrated ground effects, an air dam, lower rocker panels and a carbon fiber wing. A chopped windshield adds to the dramatic appearance of the Chrysler Crossfire Drifter, while a custom dual exhaust rounds out the performance enhancements.

Inside, Sparco has contributed a shifter, steering wheel, racing seats and pedals. Ultra-light BBS wheels, Michelin competition tires and a special RennTech limited slip rear differential are also included.

The Chrysler Crossfire Drifter is equipped with Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Formula D rules-approved steering, suspension, exhaust and roll cage modifications.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

That's what the press release says. As of now, this car (seen in the picture next to a tuned PT Cruiser and Hemi Dakota) is just a "demonstration concept" but don't be surprised if next year the Crazy Swede is rocking a Crossfire instead of the Viper Competition Coupe (which was declared illegal, anyways, but that's another topic).

Oh, no...anything but a Crossfire.

Can't Hubinette use the upcoming Viper GTS coupe? Or how about a Magnum? The second choice not only makes sense from a taste standpoint(Magnum >>>> Crossfire in looks), but also from a marketing standpoint. The Magnum will probably sell in bigger numbers than the Crossfire, especially the SRT-6 version. Having a Magnum participate in 'motorsport'(people still argue about that) will help even more.

It all depends on what Daddy Daimler-Chrysler gives him. The upcoming Viper GTS would be legal (as it's a street car as opposed to the Competition Coupe race car) as would a Magnum/Charger/300C. But if DC wants Hubinette in a Crossfire, DC puts Hubinette in a Crossfire.

Unless Hubinette decides to ditch a ride that nailed him the championship in 2004 because he doesn't like the car. Then the ride'll go to someone else.

Well, I guess the SRT-6 makes sense in another way. The Magnum and 300C are selling pretty well. Daddy DC might not want to give one up for Hubinette. They know the Crossfire doesn't sell as well, so it's not a huge deal if he gets one.

I think the paint and kit are ugly, but the crossfire's not a bad looking vehicle. Still, i say take the viper coupe and own FD for another year until the other teams step uo the game.

Well, here's the press release in which Mopar "retires" the Drift Viper.

Quote:
Although the Mopar Viper Competition Coupe wasn’t our first choice as a drift vehicle, it gave us a competition ready machine for Samuel to pilot in the 2004 Formula D season,” said DaimlerChrysler’s Youth Marketing Manager, BJ Birtwell. “While we’re sad to retire the Mopar Viper Competition Coupe from drifting, we’re excited to compete with a purpose-built drift machine in 2005.”
Quote:
The creation of Mopar’s purpose-built drift machine for 2005 is being pioneered by NuFormz Racing, which is owned by NHRA Sport Compact Series standout and race car builder, Shaun Carlson. Alongside Rob Miller, who is Carlson’s
Magnum, Chrysler 300C, Crossfire SRT-6, whatever it is Carlson will be building it and Hubinette will be driving it.
