im sure other people have done this before but for those of you who have an ls1 and you dont know, dont sleep on this.
i helped my brother make ram air on his 98 z28. the two big nasty holes on the front underneith the grill, yeah, them things were put there for a reason. hes got a wisper lid, underneith the filter we cut a big ass square hole through that cross section that goes across the front under the hood underneith the air filter, and under that we put some plastic adapters from square to round to adapt to 2 4" dryer vents and routed those to the holes on the front bumper after cutting out that styrofoam shit that is blocking the holes from the factory, and sealed it all up. spent about $15. gained about 30-40hp at 60+ mph. i would do the same shit on my lt1 but theres really no room. ill tell you what tho that ls1 LOVES ram air, it runs friggin awesome. i can still beat him tho. |

Re: here is a straight steal for all you ls1 owners.
no it was definately a guess, we'll say an educated camaro owners guess, based on performance before installation, and performance after installation: we beat a z06. im assuming is was the 370 hp z06 not the 405. other than the ram air all he has are the rest of the free mods, and k&n, wisper lid, 80 series flowmaster

as for the power esimate, if he beat a Z06, i would say it picked up a good ammount of power, however i would attribute a bit of it to other mods, cold air is worth maybe 10-20hp depending on your engine setup.

eh dont feel bad guys, GM confused alot of people by calling it that, weve had two very in depth debates on this forum about it lol.

Re: here is a straight steal for all you ls1 owners.
[quote=LT1MAN] about 30-40hp at 60+ mph. [quote]
That seems like a crap load of HP , I doubt it's even touching on 10 HP. 30 hp boost are from turbos and serious bore jobs and tiny super chargers. No way in hell can you gain 30 - 40 HP from just clearing up some air flow. I put a short ram on my 3rd ge ad I got maybe 4 - 7 Hp , 7 Tops. When I run it true CAI , 10 max. LT1 or LS1 , That's still a unreachable gain for such a puny mod. How could you tell 30 - 40 hp gain at 60 mph anyways ? Doesn't make sense. Maybe when he's going 60 MPH + and getting massive air flow shooting up that tube and mashes it into the passing gear / power gear / WOT / whatever you want to call it , It jerks a bit more but only from slight Hp gain. Take it and dyno it and get some numbers and you'll see how the CAI actually boosts HP.
