Transmisson Problems

I have a 2002 Envoy. I have had the following situation happen THREE times now.
Freeway driving and the RPMs start racing and I have no acceleration. Put it in neutral then back to drive. RPMs still high but I have acceleration. But, I only have 1st and 3rd. I have no Drive or 2nd and no reverse.
I've taken it to the same dealer and they say they will fix it. I've called GM to inform them of this problem.
Has anybody had a similar problem?

Re: fluid level

The dealer has and they've replaced some parts (don't know what part they replaced). It works for about 7 months then goes bad again.
What exactly does yours do when your fluid is down 1 qt.?

Re: Transmisson Problems

Hmm, we all have the 4L60E transmission with our Envoys. Early on, im talking back in the 90's they had a lot of problems with "sticky" valve bodies. Have you maintained your transmission? Honestly, have you ever changed the trans fluid? I would suspect the controller or, first thing that came to my head was low trans fluid level, that will cause those symptoms. But if you've been driving it this long with low fluid, you've probably already caused irreversible damage to the trans. Are you still under warranty?

The first time it happened I had the car for about 6 months. The 2nd time after a year. Both times the car was under "factory" warranty. They check the transmission fluid and ALL fluids and they were fine. This time, it is under the "extended" warranty, which sucks, because the factory warranty would have been better and GM could have done more for me. I have talked with GM and they will give me a "loyalty check". To use when I buy a new vehicle.
Tempting, but I might go back and buy a Lexus. Too bad it's foreign.
Thanks for responding. I just want to know if anyone else has had a similar problem

transmission problems

My 2002 Envoy has just lost its transmission for the second time within one year. No lock-up on torque converter. Only first third gear shift and no reverse. First time dealer rebuilt the transmission. Lets see what happens this time since it is out of warranty by 5 days.

So I assume that you have had the same exact problem that I had. You have only 1st, and 3rd and no reverse? If yes, you need to contact GMC and inform them of this problem. Mine happened 3 times and I finally traded it in for a Buick Rainier (same engine & transmission though). I'm hoping for better luck this time.

dealer contacted GM and they are repairing the transmission for $250. I guess I need to buy an extended warranty or get rid of the thing.

"YOU" need to contact GMC. They will put your info in their data base. I'm sure there are others like us. By the way, I had an extended warranty, which didn't do me any good because I had to pay the deductible. If I hadn't had the extended warranty, then the dealer would have fixed it again because it was the SAME recurring problem, even though it was out of warranty.
GMC is really nice when you talk to them. I ended up getting a "loyalty check" from them to use towards another GM product.
Something to think about.
Good luck.

awwww.... dont be a hater to your Envoy and its trans! Give it another chance; maybe you should be going to a different dealership. I think wherever you are going is "expecting" you to be back, if you know what I mean. Good Luck!

You're joking right? Did you not read the original e-mail?
My Envoy was taken to the original dealer the 1st time, then a different dealer the 2nd, then back to the original the 3rd.
There is a problem and GM knows it.
I really liked my Envoy, but I now love my Rainier (very, very quiet).
