Broken Tire Hoist

2001 Suburban:

Is there anyway to remove a spare tire when the tire hoist will not rotate other than cutting the cable? It seems the slot for the tire tool has opened up and the rotating rod will not stay engaged into the tire hoist.

Thanks

Mike

yeah, what he said...

Yeah, my new 92 has that problem as well. It uses a chain to hoist instead of a cable. Had to cut the chain by reaching in with a grinder and it was not fun. Glad I did it before I needed a spare. So once it's all lubed and functional again does one pack it in grease so it can suck up road dust? Or what? Huh? Is anyone awake out there?
